How To Make a Cow T-shirt for Chick Fil A Cow Appreciation Day

Chick Fil A Cow Day is like a holiday at my house. It’s this marvelous day, that happens only once a year, on which we all dress up like cows and go eat free chicken. If you live near a Chick Fil A and have never heard of this day, you should go check it out!

Chick Fil A gives out free entrees for a shirt or hat, or you can get a free meal if you completely dress like a cow from head to tail. Speaking of tails, check out my tutorial for a super easy cow tail to go with your awesome cow shirt.

This year, Cow Appreciation day is July 14th. And if you’re wanting to make it easy, they have free printables to help you design your own cow costume.

The first couple of years, I cut out construction paper spots and safety pinned them to all our white t-shirts. I got tired of making new shirts every year, so I made some that I can reuse every year.

Supplies:
White t-shirt
Black or brown acrylic paint
Paintbrush
Paper Plate
Large piece of cardboard (I cut up an old box)
Black or brown fabric marker

IMG_0975

Start by inserting the cardboard inside your t-shirt. You don’t want any of the paint to bleed through onto the other side of the shirt or your work area.

IMG_0980

Draw your spots on with your fabric marker – if you don’t have a fabric marker any marker should work.

IMG_0981

Put a glob of paint on your paper plate and use your paintbrush to fill in the spots.

IMG_0983

Let your shirt dry overnight.

IMG_0968

While you’re waiting, make your cow tail. Then wear your costume to Chick Fil A on July 14th, and enjoy your free chicken!

CSA – Week 6

I’m having so much fun with these CSAs. Here’s what came in this week’s CSA.

IMG_0949

More beets. This is not my favorite vegetable, but after having them for weeks, I’m staring to discover some ways to use them that me and the kids all like.

IMG_0948

Green onions. I’ve started putting these in everything, and I’m finally using them up as I get them!

IMG_0947

Swiss Chard. I didn’t think the kids would eat this, but I’ve been putting it in dishes and as long as it’s cut small enough the kids are eating it without a problem.

IMG_0946

Parsley. No basil this week, but I have a bit left from last week, and now I have parsley as well.

IMG_0945

Lettuce. It’s a good thing we like salads. I’ve gotten lettuce every week.

IMG_0944

Tomatoes. I love these tomatoes. They’re so delicious!

IMG_0943

Squash. This vegetable is a favorite at my house. And these look so delicious.

IMG_0942

Celery. I tried one of these plain and it was so strong! I didn’t realize how much more flavor locally grown would have. I’m loving this in soups and it would be great with peanut butter as well.

Etekcity Portable Outdoor Camping LED Lantern Flashlights Review

There are so many things I liked about these lanterns.

1. They come in a pack of two – Very useful that is with multiple children, they each get one and everyone is happy.
2. They are very bright – much brighter than you might expect from a lantern this small. A small lantern with a lot of light is perfect!
3. They fold up small, and they’re light. So they’re super easy to just close up and toss in your bag for later use.
4. The handle is just right. The handle folds down as well so it’s not in the way when you’re storing the lantern and it’s big enough to easily carry the lantern when you need it.

The batteries are individually wrapped, so you need to unscrew the battery compartment on the bottom, unwrap them, and stick them back in for the lantern to work. This is good for shipping, but it took me a minute to figure it out when I first got the lanterns.

This is a great product and I’ll be using it a lot this summer.

I received this product free for purposes of my review, all opinions are my own.

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

blogaward

Ever heard of the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award? It’s given to bloggers by other bloggers to recognize each other and shed a little light on other sites. I’m so honored to have been nominated for this award by the Diapers to Potty blog. I always love browsing other Mommy Blogs and I’ve been enjoying the content and engagement of Diapers to Potty. I’m so excited to participate in this blogger award!

The rules are pretty simple

  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you and link back to their site.
  2. Answer the 10 questions sent to you.
  3. Make up 10 new questions for your nominees to answer.
  4. Nominate 8 other bloggers, link them in your post and notify them of their nomination

Questions to answer

  1. How long have you been blogging? I’ve been blogging on here for several years. Mainly just tossing around ideas and trying out different things to see what works for me. I really didn’t start getting serious about it until this year.
  2. What are your long term goals for your blog? Long term, I’d like to actually make some money doing this. Also, I want to have fun and I want to share things I’ve learned with other moms.
  3. What do you love about blogging? I love how easy it is to express myself. It’s a great creative outlet for me and motivates me to do things like try new recipes for my Food Friday series that I’m doing (check back Friday for more recipes). Also, I’ve come across many awesome blogs and it’s so much fun to network and see what others are doing as well.
  4. And what do you hate, or at least just dislike? I hate writers block. That’s been my biggest challenge to starting a blog, what do I write? I also hate writing – well, I used to. I’m honestly beginning to enjoy it. It’s been a big obstacle to overcome.
  5. Do you have children and do they influence your blog? Yes, I have 3. And they do influence my blog quite a lot. Since I’m home with them pretty much everything I write about in influenced by their opinions and what I’m doing with them.
  6. What is one thing you have learned about blogging that you never would have thought of before hand? It’s remarkably hard to get people to read your blog. You can’t just put it out there and expect good things to happen. I spend a ton of time networking and just exploring new ways to network with other bloggers.
  7. What are your hobbies outside of your blog? Cooking, sewing (I promise, there will be crafts on here eventually, having 3 regular posts a week was a big step this year), reading, music (I play), graphic design (I do small business websites and other smaller graphic projects), and finding fun things to do with the kids. I also love yoga, but I don’t have a lot of time for it, I’m not sure you can call my once a month visit to the gym a hobby.
  8. Are there any bloggers that you aspire to be like? I haven’t really picked a favorite.
  9. How do you juggle being a mom along with all of your other roles? I do a lot of work during naptime and focus on spending time with the kids when everyone is awake.
  10. Tell me one thing about yourself that most of your readers do not know? I’m really pretty introverted. I love being alone and if you call my phone I probably won’t answer. I’d rather text or email.

Food Fridays – Lots of Basil

I got my second bunch of basil this week, so I figured I should probably do something with it, other than just add it to the jar on my counter with the first batch of basil. Basil lasts a long time if you put it in a jar of water on your counter.

So, this week I tried out two recipes with basil. I have lots of tomatoes on hand too, so I decided to use lots of veggies and I made spaghetti sauce.

Spaghetti Sauce

4 Large Tomatoes
3 Green Onions
1/2 Cup fresh basil leaves
3 Cloves garlic
Salt & Pepper to taste

Cut the tomatoes in rough slices, slice the green onions, and place all ingredients in a pan. Simmer over medium/low heat until tomatoes are cooked down. I cooked mine for about 1.5 hrs but you could do it faster (I was trying to cook off some of the excess water from the tomatoes). After veggies are done, place in a food processor and pulse until all chunks are gone.

Serve over pasta and topped with grated parmesan cheese.

Basil Berry Sparkling Ice

I found this recipe here on Kroger’s website. But the measurements were confusing for me, so I didn’t really do exactly what they said.

8 Large Blackberries
6 Fresh Basil Leaves
2 Cups Blackberry Sparkling ICE (it’s a brand Kroger sells but any blackberry sparkling beverage will do)
2 Cups Sparkling Lemonade
1/4 Cup Lemon Juice

Put the blackberries, basil leaves, and lemon juice in a pitcher. Mix up and let set for a few minutes, or until ready to serve drinks. Right before serving, pour the blackberry sparkling ICE and sparkling lemonade into the pitcher.

I refrigerated my drinks before opening them but if you don’t refrigerate first, you will want to serve this over ice.

CSA – Week 5

IMG_0933

My girls are so excited about these carrots. They love carrots, and had carrots a few weeks ago so this week they were asking for them again. They’re so happy to have more carrots.

IMG_0934

I can’t say I’m happy to see more beets. I’ve already pickled two bunches. I haven’t decided yet what I’m going to do with this bunch.

IMG_0935

Swiss chard. I remember my mom making this accidentally once when I was a kid thinking it was kale. It’s not kale, and it didn’t taste good. So I’m a little afraid of it, but I’m sure I’ll find something I can make with it.

IMG_0936

Basil, luckily I have ideas for using this since I’m just now finishing off my last batch. In fact, tomorrow I’ll have two recipes for you with basil.

IMG_0937

More tomatoes. These are so yummy! And I’m eating through them so quickly, I’m always happy to have more tomatoes.

IMG_0938

And lettuce, we love salads at my house, so that’s what this gets used for. There’s also a lovely red pepper I forgot to take a picture of – and since I ate it before I realized that I didn’t have a picture, there’s no picture. It was very tasty.

OZ Naturals Ancient Orient Rice Enzyme Dermafoliant – Review

OZ Naturals Face Scrub Exfoliant has bamboo, green tea extract, Vitamin B-5, lactic acid, and alpha lipoic acid. It’s goal is to remove dead skin cells and reduce fine lines and wrinkles while leaving your face with a healthy glow.

IMG_0926

This product is a rough powder, that you dump out into your hand, mix with a little water, and then scrub your face with.

I found it rather interesting to use, I put some in my palm, mixed in a little water, and started scrubbing my face. I had to add water a couple of times since it dried pretty fast.

The Face Scrub Exfoliant scrubs really well – I was worried when I was scrubbing that it was too rough, but it did what it’s supposed to do so I think it was just fine. The directions say to let it sit for 5 minutes, but I’m impatient so I let mine site for about 3 minutes before rinsing it off.

When I rinsed the Face Scrub Exfoliant off my skin was soft and smooth. And it stayed soft throughout the next day. Using this every-other to every-third day would work great for me.

It has no smell, which I love. I’m not fond of using facial products that are very aromatic, so I was pleased to be using something that doesn’t have any added scents or dyes.

IMG_0927

I enjoyed using this product and I love the soft and clear skin I got as a result of using this Exfoliant.

You can purchase it online at Amazon.

I received this product free for purposes of my review. All opinions are my own.

Daddys

With Father’s Day coming up, I start thinking about my Dad and my husband. Both great men. And just think about how blessed I am to be surrounded my entire life by men who care about me. Starting with my Dad.

Now that I have kids of my own it’s so much fun to watch my husband play with my daughters. It always brings back so many memories of my own childhood.

I remember…

1. Dad pulling me around in diaper boxes (I don’t remember this so much as I have pictures of it, because I was pretty little). He would attach a string, I would climb in, and he would pull me around the house.

2. Dad chasing me through the house. When my dad blows his nose it’s basically like he’s trumpeting. So as a child, whenever he blew his nose I would go running through the house screaming “Ahhhh, it’s the Water Buffalo!”. And he would chase me. Until he ran into a doorway and broke his toe. After that, I did all the running.

3. Dad swimming with me. Actually, what I remember is playing in my little kiddie pool and mom constantly telling me to stay in the pool and not get so much grass in the pool by climbing in and out. Then, when my dad finished his yard work he would come flop into my pool and make a gigantic splash – also he would get LOTS of grass in my pool.

Once I got older and we graduated to one of those back-yard 3ft pools. We would all walk in one direction around the edge of the pool and make a whirlpool.

4. Horse rides. Riding on Dad’s back down the hall to bed at night. Also, I would walk on his feet. Stand facing him holding hands and put my feet on top of his. He walks backwards and I walk forwards. It’s better than just sticking my feet in Dad’s shoes and clomping around.

5. Angry Alligator. Basically, just chasing us kids around on a playground. But it’s way more fun if you’re trying to escape an alligator.

We would build “tents” from chairs and blankets and “shoot bears”, and we would even play this game (I can’t remember what we called it) where dad sat in the middle and we ran around him trying to get as close as we could without getting caught. Kinda like blind man’s bluff without any blindfolds.

I received lots of good advice from my dad, and he always did a good job taking care of his family, but thinking back to when I was a kid, I most remember all the fun, laughter, and play.

So, Daddys, play with your children. It means so much more than you think it does. And please, don’t run into any doors.
